Bandra West, October 23, 2026:
St. Mary’s High School celebrated its 162nd Annual Sports Day with great enthusiasm at Wings Sports Complex, Bandra West, on Friday, October 23, 2026. The event began at 9:00 a.m. and concluded at 1:00 p.m., leaving students, teachers, parents, and guests with memorable experiences.
The occasion was graced by Mr. Salil Goel, a distinguished alumnus of the school, as the Chief Guest. The Principal, Mr. Elias Coelho, along with members of the school management, Father Savio, and the supervisors of the Primary and Pre-Primary sections, was also present.
The programme commenced with a Guard of Honour presented by the students to welcome the dignitaries. This was followed by an impressive March Past led by the School Captain, School Vice-Captain, and the four houses—Red, White, Blue, and Green. The students marched with discipline and pride, saluting the Chief Guest. The school flag was then hoisted, followed by the School Anthem.
In his address, Mr. Salil Goel motivated the students and highlighted the importance of sports, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in shaping young minds. He also lit the Sports Torch and handed it to the school’s sportsperson, Darius Dadiborge, who passed it to Zakaria Motiwala. The torch was then carried by Aradhya Pawar and Darian Mishri before completing its journey around the ground. The Chief Guest subsequently declared the Sports Day open.
One of the highlights of the programme was the Mass Drill performed by students from Standards V to X, demonstrating the importance of physical fitness, coordination, and regular exercise. The audience enthusiastically applauded the students for their synchronised movements and dedication.
The athletic events included exciting 100-metre races in the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 categories. The students displayed remarkable speed, determination, and sportsmanship. The programme continued with a lively Lezim performance, followed by the 200-metre races and an impressive Pyramid display showcasing the students’ strength, balance, coordination, and teamwork. The 400-metre races further added to the excitement.
A special attraction of this year’s Sports Day was the introduction of the Medley Relay, which added a fresh dimension to the athletic programme. Immediately following the Medley Relay, the much-anticipated Inter-School Relay Competition took centre stage. Regarded as one of the most prestigious events for the school’s sporting community and neighbouring schools, this exciting competition brought together teams from St. Mary’s High School, Christ Church School, and St. Peter’s School. The participation of these schools added a special significance to the event, fostering healthy competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship among the young athletes.
Another exciting event was the Tug of War competition between former students and teachers, which generated tremendous enthusiasm and cheers from the spectators.
All the events were conducted in a spirit of healthy competition, unity, and sportsmanship. The Sports Day concluded with a prize-distribution ceremony honouring the achievements of the participants. White House received recognition for its outstanding March Past squad and was also declared the Best Overall House, earning well-deserved applause.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Principal, Mr. Elias Coelho, followed by the National Anthem.
The 162nd Annual Sports Day was a grand success, filled with energy, joy, teamwork, and school spirit. The school expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the students, parents, teachers, organisers, and everyone who contributed to making the event memorable.
