The Marathi language has a rich and glorious tradition. It is an ancient language that has been granted the status of a classical language ( 'अभिजात भाषा' ). Saints such as Sant Dnyaneshwar, Sant Tukaram, and Sant Namdev spread the glory of Marathi among the common people through their abhangas and literary works, thereby enriching its cultural heritage.

During the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Marathi language gained special importance. He made significant efforts to promote the use of Marathi in the administration of Swarajya and to encourage its development. Ancient inscriptions and copper plates written in Marathi introduce us to the language’s rich historical heritage. They provide valuable information about the evolution of Marathi, changes in its word formation, and its linguistic development over time.

It is essential to pass on this priceless heritage of Marathi to students, instill pride in their mother tongue, and develop their interest in learning the language. With the aim of helping students understand Marathi more closely, appreciate its historical significance, and contribute to its preservation and development, a special workshop was organized for classes 5, 6 and 7 at the school on Friday, October 09, 2026

For this workshop, Mr. Raamesh Gowri Raghavan was invited. He introduced the students to the rich tradition of the Marathi language. He also explained the historical significance of ancient inscriptions and copper plates in detail. By asking the students various questions, he encouraged their curiosity and sought to understand their inquisitive and analytical abilities.

Through this initiative, the students gained valuable knowledge about the glorious history of the Marathi language. They were also inspired to take pride in their mother tongue, preserve its heritage, and contribute to its growth and development. Protecting this rich legacy of Marathi and passing it on to future generations is the collective responsibility of us all.
